Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess and monitor hemodynamically stable or predictably unstable patients, using critical thinking to detect changes early and intervene appropriately
• Provide direct patient care from admission through discharge, including comprehensive discharge planning and coordination with the care team
• Operate and manage advanced medical equipment such as ventilators, multiple IV pumps, arterial and central line monitoring, chest tubes and nasogastric tubes
• Perform cardiac telemetry monitoring and interpret EKGs to support timely clinical decisions
• Administer and manage IV therapies, continuous bladder irrigation, and other complex nursing interventions safely and accurately
• Collaborate with physicians, charge nurses and interdisciplinary team members to deliver effective, patient-centered care
• Act as a clinical leader: precept new staff, mentor colleagues, and contribute to unit practice improvements
• Document patient care and communicate changes in condition clearly and professionally to ensure continuity of care

Qualifications

• Current State of Montana RN licensure required
• BLS, ACLS, and PALS required (may be obtained within 6 months of hire as stated)
• Practice experience in an advanced Medical/Surgical unit plus recent Progressive Care or Critical Care nursing experience required
• EPNC and TNCC certifications preferred
• Demonstrated ability to care for patients with central lines, arterial lines, chest tubes, ventilatory support, and to operate advanced monitoring equipment
• Ability to function as a clinical leader and preceptor

Education

• Degree from a Nursing Program

Knowledge & Skills

• Patient assessment and advanced nursing procedures
• Telemetry monitoring and EKG interpretation
• Ventilator management (invasive and noninvasive)
• IV management and use of multiple IV pumps
• Care of arterial lines, central lines, chest tubes and nasogastric tubes
• Continuous bladder irrigation management
• Strong communication and interdisciplinary collaboration skills
• Pediatric experience and advanced medical/surgical knowledge (preferred)
