Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide skilled labor & delivery, postpartum, and neonatal nursing care with compassion and clinical precision
• Monitor, interpret, and document electronic fetal heart tracings using current NICHD terminology and perform scheduled NSTs
• Deliver total peri-operative nursing care for C-section patients, including post-surgical recovery through discharge
• Respond calmly and effectively to emergencies (trauma, fetal distress) and assist with or prepare patients for transfer to tertiary care as needed
• Offer focused 1:1 labor support including pain management, coaching, and bedside assistance during procedures
• Triage OB phone calls and manage unscheduled outpatient needs to ensure timely, safe care
• Provide breastfeeding support and education, and perform well-baby checks
• Supervise and delegate to CNA/tech and support staff, ensuring safe, high-quality patient care
• Document assessments, interventions, and patient progress accurately and communicate effectively with the interdisciplinary team
• Participate in unit goals, staff meetings, in-services, and ongoing competency maintenance

Qualifications

• Current full, unrestricted Registered Nurse license in Alaska or another U.S. state required (Direct hire must have applied for Alaska license before start date; agency staff must have active Alaska license)
• BLS required on hire; ACLS, PALS, and NRP required within 6 months of hire
• Familiarity with NICHD fetal monitoring terminology and electronic fetal monitoring
• One year clinical nursing experience preferred; prior L&D specialty experience preferred
• Ability to work independently, make sound clinical judgments, and supervise support staff
• Willingness to take assigned call shifts and work holidays/weekends as needed

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent required

Knowledge & Skills

• Solid knowledge of nursing care principles, assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation
• Competence in interpreting labs, diagnostics, and fetal monitoring tracings
• Skill in medication administration and use of monitoring/medical equipment (defibrillator, EKG, suction devices)
• Strong oral and written communication and documentation skills
• Ability to teach patients and families, and to provide emotional support during childbirth and postpartum care
• Familiarity with ACOG standards and peri-operative nursing practices
