Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, high-quality nursing care to newborns in the NICU and nursery
• Perform neonatal assessments, monitor vital signs, and implement individualized care plans
• Lead and participate in neonatal resuscitation and emergency interventions when needed
• Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists and the care team to optimize outcomes
• Maintain accurate, timely documentation and ensure compliance with unit protocols
• Support and educate families, offering clear guidance and emotional reassurance
• Participate in shift handoffs and communicate patient status to ensure continuity of care

Qualifications

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure appropriate for practice in Louisiana
• Required certifications: NRP, ACLS, BLS
• Prior experience working in a nursery or NICU strongly preferred
• Comfort with neonatal monitoring equipment and common newborn procedures
• Excellent communication skills and a family-centered care approach
• Ability to function calmly in emergency situations and follow established protocols

Knowledge & Skills

• Neonatal resuscitation and newborn stabilization
• Assessment and management of neonatal respiratory and cardiac status
• Familiarity with NICU and nursery workflows and documentation
• Infection control practices specific to newborn care
• Strong clinical judgment, prioritization, and teamwork
• Patient/family education and culturally sensitive communication
