Roles & Responsibilities
- Assist residents with activities of daily living — bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting
- Provide compassionate hands-on care tailored to the geriatric population
- Support safe transfers and mobility, using proper body mechanics to protect residents and yourself
- Observe and report changes in resident condition to nursing staff promptly
- Document care accurately and timely to maintain clear communication across the care team
- Engage residents in meaningful conversation and activities to promote dignity and quality of life
- Collaborate with nurses, therapists, and other team members to deliver coordinated care
Qualifications
- GNA or CNA certification required (state GNA certification preferred)
- Current CPR/BLS certification or willingness to obtain upon hire
- Ability to pass background check, drug screen, and required health screenings
- Strong communication skills and a compassionate, patient-centered approach
- Previous experience in long-term care or geriatric settings preferred but caring attitude and reliability are essential
Education
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Completion of an approved GNA/CNA training program
Knowledge & Skills
- Understanding of basic geriatric care principles and resident rights
- Familiarity with infection control and proper hygiene practices
- Basic vital signs and observation skills with good attention to detail
- Safe transfer and lifting techniques to reduce fall risk
- Clear, respectful communication with residents, families, and team members
- Time management and the ability to prioritize resident needs during shifts
