Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, hands-on care to geriatric residents, promoting dignity and comfort
- Assist residents with activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, toileting, feeding)
- Monitor resident status and promptly report any changes to nursing staff
- Support safe mobility and fall-prevention measures during transfers and ambulation
- Maintain accurate, timely documentation of care and observations
- Collaborate with nurses and the interdisciplinary team to support individualized care plans
- Follow infection prevention and safety protocols to protect residents and staff
- Participate in shift handoffs and communicate resident needs clearly and respectfully
Qualifications
- Active GNA certification (Class: GNA) — required
- Current CPR/BLS certification preferred or willing to obtain
- Compassionate patient care mindset with good communication skills
- Ability to work night shifts and adapt to per-diem scheduling
- Reliable, punctual, and able to follow facility policies and procedures
- Previous experience in long-term care or geriatric settings a plus
Education
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- GNA certification required
Knowledge & Skills
- Knowledge of basic geriatric care and age-related needs
- Skilled in assistance with ADLs and safe resident handling techniques
- Clear verbal and written communication for effective teamwork
- Basic charting and documentation practices (paper or electronic)
- Strong observation skills to notice subtle changes in condition
- Time management and the ability to prioritize resident needs
