Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess and triage adult and geriatric med/surg patients to ensure safe, timely care
• Administer and titrate complex infusions such as insulin and heparin drips with precision
• Monitor cardiac rhythms and interpret dysrhythmias to guide interventions
• Provide respiratory support including High Flow Nasal Cannula and short-term BiPAP when needed
• Perform wound care and Wound Vac dressing changes with attention to detail
• Serve as charge nurse for night shifts when assigned, coordinating unit flow and staffing
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including pharmacy, respiratory therapy and physical therapy
• Document thoroughly in EPIC and use PYXIS for medication management
• Participate on inclement weather / hurricane teams and respond during emergency events

Qualifications

• Current, unrestricted RN license valid for practice (able to obtain NC licensure if not current)
• Minimum 2 years of clinical nursing experience; unit will accept first-time travelers
• BCLS (BLS) required
• EPIC experience required for documentation and med administration
• Comfortable initiating and managing insulin and heparin drips
• Previous charge experience preferred and required for night travelers
• Must pass EKG testing prior to start
• Willingness to float to similar units and work every other weekend and holidays
• Able to be assigned to inclement weather / storm teams and report during catastrophic events

Knowledge & Skills

• EPIC charting and PYXIS medication system savvy
• IV therapy, peripheral line care and phlebotomy skills
• Cardiac monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation
• Management of insulin and heparin drips
• High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC) and limited short-term BiPAP support
• Wound care and Wound Vac dressing changes
• Isolation precautions and proper PPE use
• Strong SBAR communication and interdisciplinary collaboration
