Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide specialized hand therapy assessments and develop individualized treatment plans
• Deliver skilled interventions using modalities such as ultrasound, TENS and electrical stimulation
• Fabricate and fit dynamic, functional and static splints to restore hand and upper extremity function
• Manage edema and implement manual techniques including edema massage and orthoplast applications
• Support activities of daily living and feeding technique interventions to maximize patient independence
• Collaborate closely with interdisciplinary teams to coordinate comprehensive patient care
• Document patient care accurately and timely using the required charting system
• Provide family-centered care and pediatric support when required, with sensitivity and patience
• Participate in quality improvement, education and departmental initiatives to improve outcomes

Qualifications

• CA OT License (required)
• Certified Hand Therapist OR California Advanced Practice license in Hand Therapy (required)
• Physical Agent Modalities certification/competency (required)
• AHA BLS (required)
• Minimum 1 year of occupational therapy experience
• Ability to float to other UCSF facilities (required)
• NBCOT (preferred)
• Pediatric experience highly preferred
• COVID-19 vaccine including booster required (medical/religious exemptions only)
• Experience with required charting system

Education

• Degree in Occupational Therapy (required for CA OT licensure)

Knowledge & Skills

• Expertise in hand therapy techniques and upper extremity rehabilitation
• Proficient in splinting: dynamic, functional and static splints
• Skilled with modalities: ultrasound, TENS, electrical stimulation and biofeedback
• Experience with edema management and orthoplast fabrication
• Familiarity with prosthetics/orthotics and post-op orthopedic care
• Comfortable in acute care and pediatric settings
• Strong documentation and charting skills
• Excellent interdisciplinary communication and patient education abilities
