Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide safe, high-quality postpartum and newborn nursing care using the nursing process
• Assess moms and newborns, develop and implement individualized care plans, and evaluate outcomes
• Deliver patient and family education to promote safe transitions home and newborn wellness
• Monitor changes in condition and respond quickly and appropriately to clinical needs
• Collaborate with the Birthplace team and utilize the chain of command to ensure patient safety
• Maintain required documentation, competence checklists, and complete mandatory exams
• Support a safe environment for patients, families, and visitors while maintaining standards of care

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license with verification via Nursys
• Required certifications: BLS, NRP, DCI/BVP
• Current completion of required health screenings and immunizations (COVID-19, MMR, Hep B, Influenza, TB testing, Varicella, Tdap)
• Completion of Prime drug screening (minimum 10-panel) and color-blind test as required
• Demonstrated postpartum and newborn care skills and comfort in Birthplace settings
• Ability to complete Prime Basic Pharmacology, Prime Core Competencies, Prime Skills Checklist, and Prime Specialty Exam

Knowledge & Skills

• Skilled in the nursing process: assessment, care planning, implementation, and evaluation
• Strong patient and family education skills for antepartum, postpartum, and newborn care
• Competent in patient safety practices and newborn/maternal response to clinical changes
• Familiar with Prime competency systems and specialty exam workflows
• Basic pharmacology knowledge and medication administration safety
• Proficient with required clinical screenings and fit testing processes
