Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, high-acuity nursing care for SICU/MICU/Neuro patients, including post-op cardiac and stroke patients.
• Manage advanced therapies such as CRRT and assist with IABP care and monitoring to optimize patient hemodynamics.
• Perform thorough neuro and cardiac assessments, initiate stroke protocols, and document NIHSS scores when indicated.
• Deliver evidence-based ventilator and hemodynamic management, titrating therapies per physician orders and unit protocols.
• Accurately and efficiently document all care and interventions in EPIC to ensure continuity and quality of care.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams — physicians, RTs, pharmacists, and techs — to coordinate complex care plans.
• Respond to emergent situations and participate in code and rapid response teams as needed.
• Maintain competency through required exams, skills checklists, and continuing education to provide the best patient outcomes.

Qualifications

• Active RN license (verified via Nursys) required for practice in Illinois.
• Critical care nursing experience in ICU, SICU, MICU, or Neuro ICU preferred.
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; NIHSS certification required for stroke assessment.
• Demonstrated experience with CRRT, IABP, and post-CABG cardiac care highly desired.
• Familiarity with EPIC electronic health record strongly preferred.
• Completion of required health screenings and immunizations (COVID-19 vaccine, TB testing/PPD or chest x-ray, MMR, Hepatitis B, Varicella, Tdap) and fit test as indicated.
• Successful completion of Prime competency exams and skills checklists as part of onboarding.

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficient EPIC documentation and electronic charting.
• Strong critical care assessment skills for neuro, cardiac, and post-op patients.
• Experience initiating and managing CRRT and caring for patients with IABP.
• Skilled in ventilator management, hemodynamic monitoring, and titration of vasoactive drips.
• Comfortable participating in stroke and cardiac alert pathways (NIHSS, TNK administration familiarity).
• Excellent communication, teamwork, and situational awareness in high-acuity settings.
