Roles & Responsibilities
- Perform Compensation & Pension (C&P) exams with care and clarity — these are non-treatment, one-time evaluations
- Conduct Separation Health Assessments to evaluate medical issues related to service separation
- Lead interview-based medical evaluations to gather relevant history and functional impact
- Carry out focused physical assessments including range of motion and muscle strength testing
- Prepare timely, well-written medical reports, addendums, and medical opinions
- Complete required follow-up administrative work (documentation, diagnostic review) promptly
- Participate in required trainings and maintain credentialing standards
- Work collaboratively with VES processes to ensure consistent, high-quality evaluations for Veterans
Qualifications
- MD or DO (or equivalent) — active and unrestricted medical license in the state where you will practice
- Specialty background welcomed: Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Orthopedic Surgery, or general medicine experience
- Comfortable performing interview-based evaluations and focused physical assessments (ROM, muscle strength)
- Experience with compensation & pension exams is a strong plus, but motivated clinicians with general medicine backgrounds are encouraged to apply
- Ability to provide services within a 50-mile radius of the listed city or to host Veterans in your own office (if selecting that option)
- Reliable documentation skills and willingness to complete portal-based training and administrative follow-up
Education
- MD or DO (or equivalent medical degree)
Knowledge & Skills
- Familiarity with Compensation & Pension (C&P) exam processes and separation health assessments
- Proficiency in range of motion testing and muscle strength evaluation techniques
- Strong clinical interviewing and focused exam skills for medicolegal evaluations
- Clear medical report writing, including addendums and medical opinions
- Ability to read and interpret diagnostic information to inform reports
- Understanding of non-treatment scope (evaluation only) and medicolegal documentation standards
