Roles & Responsibilities

Prepare, organize, and sterilize surgical instruments and supplies for procedures
Assist the surgical team intraoperatively by anticipating needs and passing instruments
Maintain and monitor the sterile field throughout cases to ensure patient safety
Perform instrument, sponge and needle counts and accurately document findings
Participate in orientation and unit training to quickly integrate with the team
Communicate effectively with surgeons, nurses, and support staff to promote smooth workflows

Qualifications

Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) preferred or completion of an accredited surgical tech program
Current BLS/CPR certification or willingness to obtain
State licensure if required by facility
Prior operating room experience preferred; new graduates who complete orientation are welcome
Strong attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced surgical environment

Education

Completion of an accredited Surgical Technologist program or equivalent
High school diploma or GED required

Knowledge & Skills

Solid knowledge of sterile technique and perioperative protocols
Familiarity with surgical instruments, supplies, and sterilization procedures
Ability to perform accurate instrument and sponge counts
Comfortable working as part of a multidisciplinary OR team
Basic electronic medical record (EMR) documentation skills
