Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide expert surgical nursing care for neurosurgery patients throughout the perioperative continuum
• Assess and monitor neurological status, intervene promptly, and escalate concerns to the surgical team
• Coordinate care with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and multidisciplinary colleagues to ensure safe, efficient procedures
• Prepare patients and families with clear, compassionate education before and after surgery
• Maintain sterile technique, accurate documentation, and adherence to unit protocols
• Participate in on-call rotations (10-12 days/month) to provide urgent perioperative support
• Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and uphold patient safety standards

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) credential (as listed in core skills)
• BLS certification (required)
• NIHSS certification (required)
• License/Certificate Verification required prior to start
• Experience or training in surgical nursing and neurosurgery preferred
• Willingness to participate in on-call rotation (10-12 days/month)

Knowledge & Skills

• Clinical expertise in neurosurgical patient care and perioperative nursing
• Strong neurological assessment and monitoring skills
• Proficiency with sterile technique, surgical instrumentation awareness, and operating room workflows
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills for multidisciplinary coordination
• Ability to prioritize, make timely clinical decisions, and document accurately
• Comfort with on-call responsibilities and responding to urgent surgical needs
