Instrumentation Coordinator - Sterile Processing
Location: Columbus, OH

Contract Type: Travel Contract
Shift Type: Monday-Friday, 3:00 PM - 11:30 PM (2nd Shift / Evening) — occasional scheduled holidays; may be required to float to other locations
Hours per Week: 40
Candidate Pay Rate: $34 per hour

Roles & Responsibilities
- Decontaminate, clean and prepare surgical instruments and specialty equipment (drills, DaVinci, scopes) following strict infection-prevention standards
- Assemble and organize sets/trays and preference cards for a wide range of service lines—ensuring instruments are ready and safe for every procedure
- Operate and monitor sterilization processes, including steam and Sterrad systems, and maintain testing/monitoring with biological and chemical indicators
- Perform high-level disinfection and endoscope reprocessing using AERs and manual cleaning techniques to ensure patient safety
- Serve as the OR liaison and coordinate instrument flow between sterile processing and perioperative areas to support seamless surgical care
- Use Censitrac tracking and other documentation systems to track instrumentation, manage sterile storage, and maintain equipment records
- Standardize, procure, and optimize instrument trays across the enterprise to improve efficiency and reduce case delays
- Float to and support multiple reprocessing sites across the health system when needed, contributing to 24/7 operational coverage
Qualifications
- Minimum 3+ years of sterile processing experience in a high-volume, tertiary/teaching hospital or equivalent (HARD STOP: 3 years required)
- CBSPD or CRCST certification accepted (IAHCSMM/HSPA credentials are acceptable)
- Trauma Level II experience required; teaching hospital experience required; community hospital experience preferred
- Experience with Sterrad and steam sterilization, HLD, flexible endoscope reprocessing, and Automated Endoscope Reprocessors (AER)
- Familiarity with Censitrac or equivalent instrument tracking systems; Epic charting experience preferred
- Ability to float to multiple sites and work occasional holidays; reliable, team-oriented, and detail-focused
- Flu vaccine required (medical exemptions only); COVID-19 vaccine not required per facility guideline
- Previous OSU employees or prior travelers to this unit will not be accepted
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- CBSPD or CRCST certification through IAHCSMM/HSPA preferred/accepted
- Onboarding/orientation: 40 hours of orientation as specified
Knowledge & Skills
- Sterile processing fundamentals: decontamination, instrument assembly, sterile storage, and aseptic technique
- Endoscope types and reprocessing: bronchoscopes, colonoscopes, EGD, ERCP, EBUS, EUS, TEE probes and related scope care
- Sterilization modalities and monitoring: Sterrad, steam sterilization, biological and chemical indicators, IUSS
- Use and maintenance of washers, ultrasonic cleaners, AERs, and Sterrad machines
- Case cart prep, preference card management, and tray optimization for multiple surgical specialties
- Equipment documentation, specialty equipment processing (DaVinci/robotics, drills), and tracking systems like Censitrac
- Strong communication skills to act as an effective OR liaison and collaborator across teams
