Registered Nurse - Neuro ICU
Location: Phoenix, AZ
Start Date: 05-04-2026
End Date: 08-03-2026
Contract Type: Travel Contract
Shift Type: Rotating 12-hour day shifts, 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM (day); schedule includes weekends (approximately 4 weekend shifts per 4 weeks), holidays per unit coverage. May be placed on standby for scheduled shifts and required to float between ICU floors and Tele units (may carry 4:1 on Tele).
Hours per Week: 36
Candidate Pay Rate: $60 per hour

Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide focused neuro-critical care for complex neurosurgical and neurological patients, delivering safe, evidence-based nursing at a 1:2 ratio
- Perform frequent and skilled neuro assessments and manage intracranial pressure (ICP) monitoring and EVD care
- Manage ventilated patients and coordinate with Respiratory Therapy (RT) for optimal ventilator management
- Maintain strict sterile technique during procedures and complete SIMs Lab competencies (Foley, central line dressing changes, port-a-cath as applicable)
- Document care accurately in Cerner and communicate changes effectively with the interdisciplinary team
- Float to Tele units and other ICUs as needed, adapting to varied patient populations and monitor systems (Phillips monitors)
- Support unit operations by serving as charge nurse when assigned (charge does not take patients)
Qualifications
- Active RN license or ability to obtain licensure for Arizona (license to submit: willing to wait)
- BLS and ACLS required
- Minimum ICU experience—2 years in a large (450+ bed) hospital preferred; will consider candidates with 18 months Neuro ICU experience
- Required Level 1 Trauma experience
- Required EVD experience and demonstrated competency with ICP monitoring
- 3-6 months travel experience preferred
- Successful completion of pre-employment clinical screening and DYS exam (must pass; two attempts allowed)
- Ability to complete SIMs Lab competencies (pass/fail) and demonstrate sterile-field maintenance
- Compliance with facility appearance/PPE policies (e.g., no facial piercings, natural hair color expectations, men clean-shaven for fit testing)
- Travel team candidates must have their own vehicle and meet the 50-mile radius rule (driver's license is source of truth)
Knowledge & Skills
- Advanced neuro assessment and recognition of neuro changes
- EVD management and ICP monitoring
- Critical care nursing fundamentals (hemodynamic monitoring, vasoactive drips)
- Ventilator management and collaboration with Respiratory Therapy
- Sterile technique and procedural competency (Foley insertion, central line dressing change, port-a-cath where applicable)
- Telemetry and Phillips monitor familiarity
- Electronic charting in Cerner
- Ability to function in a Level 1 Trauma environment and handle high-acuity caseloads
