Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive postpartum care to birthing parents, including assessment, postpartum procedures and patient education
• Deliver newborn care and perform newborn assessments, thermoregulation, metabolic screens, and discharge teaching to parents
• Start and maintain IVs, administer IV medications and blood & blood products safely and per policy
• Continuously monitor cardiac status and interpret telemetry/ECG rhythms (pass EKG exam prior to start)
• Manage common postpartum complications including PPH and pregnancy-induced hypertension with timely interventions
• Support breastfeeding and teach use of electric/manual pumps and newborn feeding care
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (IV teams, PT, pharmacy, social work, rapid response) to coordinate patient-centered care
• Respond quickly to emergency situations and escalate appropriately to ensure patient and infant safety

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years postpartum nursing experience (strong like experience considered equivalent)
• Active RN licensure (must be able to practice as an RN)
• BLS required; IV certification and proven IV start skills required
• Labor & Delivery (L&D) experience and newborn care experience
• EPIC charting experience required
• NRP preferred
• Ability to pass an EKG/telemetry exam prior to start
• Willingness to float to similar-acuity units and complete a 36-hour orientation

Education

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license required
• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Nursing preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Postpartum assessment and procedures (fundus/lochia care, episiotomy/incision care, Foley insertion)
• Newborn care skills (cord care, phototherapy, NAS recognition, metabolic screens)
• IV therapy, medication administration, and blood product administration
• Telemetry interpretation and dysrhythmia recognition
• Management of postpartum complications (hemorrhage, preeclampsia)
• Breastfeeding support and parent education
• Experience with EPIC electronic health record
• Strong communication, patient education, and family-centered care skills
