Roles & Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate the NICU nursing team on shift as the Charge Nurse
• Oversee patient assignments and ensure safe, high-quality neonatal care
• Triage admissions and collaborate with physicians and multidisciplinary teams
• Provide hands-on clinical nursing for critically ill neonates when needed
• Mentor and support bedside nurses, fostering a positive learning environment
• Ensure accurate documentation, compliance, and smooth patient handoffs
• Communicate clearly and compassionately with families regarding care plans
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance NICU outcomes

Qualifications

• Active RN license in the state of practice (or compact license where applicable)
• Previous NICU experience; prior charge nurse or leadership experience preferred
• Current BLS certification required; NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) strongly preferred
• Comfortable with ventilators, neonatal monitors, and advanced neonatal care
• Strong clinical judgment, leadership presence, and effective communication skills
• Ability to work nights and manage unit flow during high-acuity periods

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN); BSN preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Neonatal assessment and critical care skills
• Airway and ventilator management for neonates
• IV/line management and medication administration in NICU
• Family-centered care and effective family communication
• Electronic medical record (EMR) documentation and charting accuracy
• Infection control practices and NICU safety protocols
• Team leadership, delegation, and conflict resolution
