Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality respiratory care for neonatal through geriatric patients across the continuum
• Perform neonatal resuscitation and stabilization when needed using NRP/STABLE protocols
• Operate and manage ventilators and advanced respiratory equipment safely and effectively
• Assess and monitor patients’ respiratory status, interpret ABGs, and adjust therapies accordingly
• Collaborate with nurses, physicians, and allied health staff to develop and implement care plans
• Educate patients and families on respiratory disease management, equipment use, and discharge planning
• Maintain accurate, timely documentation and adhere to hospital policies and safety protocols
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance respiratory care in a rural hospital setting

Qualifications

• Current Respiratory Therapist credential (CRT or RRT) or graduate of accredited respiratory program
• BLS, ACLS, PALS required
• Neonatal resuscitation certification (NRP or STABLE) required
• Experience caring for neonatal through geriatric patients; rural hospital experience a strong plus
• Active or eligible for Texas respiratory therapist license
• Strong clinical assessment skills, excellent communication, and ability to work independently

Education

• Associate degree or diploma in Respiratory Therapy from an accredited program (or equivalent)
• Completion of required clinical rotations and program credentialing; advanced degrees welcome

Knowledge & Skills

• Knowledge of ventilator management and troubleshooting
• Skilled in airway management, suctioning, oxygen therapy, and aerosolized medication delivery
• Ability to perform and interpret arterial blood gases (ABGs)
• Familiarity with neonatal stabilization and pediatric respiratory protocols
• Comfortable working in a rural hospital environment with variable patient acuity
• Team collaboration, critical thinking, and patient/family education skills
