Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform focused pre-operative assessments for pediatric patients and document findings clearly
• Coordinate with surgical and perioperative teams to ensure timely patient flow
• Provide family-centered education and reassurance to children and caregivers
• Prepare patients for procedures including medication reconciliation and verification of consent
• Maintain accurate, compliant documentation and handoffs
• Adhere to infection prevention, safety protocols, and pediatric care standards
• Support a positive, compassionate environment for children undergoing surgery

Qualifications

• Current RN credential (Registered Nurse) — ready to provide pediatric care
• Experience or interest in pediatric pre-op nursing (experience in pediatrics is a strong plus)
• Comfort working per diem with flexible scheduling and variable shift times
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with children, families, and the interdisciplinary team
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; pediatric certifications (e.g., PALS) preferred
• Ability to complete facility orientation prior to or at assignment start

Knowledge & Skills

• Pediatric assessment and age-appropriate communication skills
• Knowledge of pre-operative procedures, safety checks, and documentation
• Effective teamwork and coordination with surgical and perioperative staff
• Compassionate family education and patient advocacy
• Comfortable with perioperative workflows and maintaining a calm environment
