Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate pre-operative nursing care to pediatric patients, preparing them physically and emotionally for procedures
• Perform thorough pre-op assessments and accurately document findings in the medical record
• Educate patients and families about pre-operative instructions and what to expect
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and perioperative staff to ensure safe, timely care
• Monitor vital signs and respond promptly to changes in patient condition
• Maintain pediatric safety standards and infection control practices at all times
• Assist with medication administration and basic procedural support per unit protocols
• Participate actively in orientation and ongoing unit training

Qualifications

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Washington or eligibility to obtain WA licensure
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required; Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) preferred
• Experience or clinical comfort working with pediatric patients in pre-op settings preferred
• Strong communication skills for effective family-centered education
• Ability to pass background checks and attend required orientation

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)

Knowledge & Skills

• Pediatric assessment and age-appropriate care techniques
• Pre-operative evaluation and preparation protocols
• Familiarity with perioperative safety and infection control standards
• Medication administration and accurate clinical documentation
• Electronic Health Record (EHR) proficiency
• Excellent teamwork, adaptability, and family-centered communication
