Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform thorough pre-operative assessments of pediatric patients and document findings clearly
• Prepare patients and families for procedures with compassionate education and reassurance
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and perioperative staff to ensure safe, coordinated care
• Administer pre-op medications and follow established protocols accurately
• Monitor and report changes in patient condition promptly to the care team
• Maintain a safe, child-friendly environment and adhere to infection control standards
• Participate in orientation and unit-specific training to maintain high-quality care standards

Qualifications

• Current, active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Massachusetts
• Experience or demonstrated comfort working with pediatric patients in a pre-operative setting
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) preferred
• Strong communication skills for family-centered care and interdisciplinary collaboration
• Ability to follow perioperative protocols and maintain accurate clinical documentation
• Professional, reliable, and able to participate in the provided orientation

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Knowledge of pre-operative nursing practices and pediatric assessment
• Familiarity with medication administration and perioperative safety checks
• Skill in calming anxious children and educating caregivers in a supportive way
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced surgical preparation area
• Comfort with electronic health records and clear, concise charting
