Roles & Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality, compassionate nursing care to critically ill pediatric patients in the PICU
• Assess patients frequently, recognize changes in condition, and escalate concerns promptly
• Administer medications, IV therapies, and procedures safely and according to protocol
• Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists, and the multidisciplinary team to implement care plans
• Provide clear, timely documentation in the patient record and participate in shift handoffs
• Support families with education, updates, and emotional care during stressful times
• Participate in unit safety practices, infection control, and quality improvement initiatives

Qualifications

• Active RN license in Ohio (required) or compact RN license where applicable
• Current BLS and PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certifications preferred or required per facility
• Experience caring for critically ill pediatric patients in a PICU setting (per diem candidates accepted)
• Comfort with pediatric ventilator management, hemodynamic monitoring, and vasoactive drips
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work calmly under pressure
• Ability to complete orientation and credentialing requirements prior to assignments
• Pass background check, drug screen, and required health screenings/immunizations

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
• Completion of clinical training in pediatric or critical care nursing preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Clinical assessment and critical thinking specific to pediatric critical care
• Management of ventilators, invasive lines, and vasoactive medications
• Pediatric dosage calculations and safe medication administration
• Family-centered care and effective communication with caregivers
• Proficient documentation and basic EMR navigation
• Infection control best practices and unit safety protocols
