Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide safe, compassionate perioperative nursing care tailored to pediatric patients in the operating room
• Prepare the OR, ensure sterile field integrity, and verify instruments and supplies for each case
• Monitor patient status closely during procedures and escalate concerns to the surgical team as needed
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and perioperative staff to promote efficient case flow
• Communicate clearly with families and caregivers about perioperative instructions and postoperative expectations
• Maintain accurate documentation and adhere to infection prevention and patient safety protocols
• Participate in orientation, continuing education, and unit-based quality improvement activities

Qualifications

• Current RN license in Ohio or nursing compact licensure where applicable
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required; Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and OR-specific certifications preferred
• Experience in pediatric perioperative nursing or operating room nursing is highly valued
• Comfort working with children and their families, demonstrating patience and strong communication skills
• Ability to pass background checks and meet facility credentialing requirements

Education

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN)

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong understanding of sterile technique, perioperative workflows, and pediatric anatomy/physiology
• Familiarity with surgical instruments, specimen handling, and surgical counting procedures
• Proficiency with electronic health records and accurate clinical documentation
• Excellent teamwork, situational awareness, and the ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment
• Compassionate family-centered care and effective patient/caregiver education skills
