Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality medical-surgical nursing care to adult inpatients on the Medical Specialties unit
• Administer medications and manage multiple pharmacy regimens safely and accurately
• Perform IV insertion and manage vascular access including line and PICC care when needed
• Operate and monitor common unit equipment: IV pumps, bladder scanner, HEPA machines, oxygen delivery, CPAP/BiPAP
• Manage feeding tubes, wound VACs, and other specialty devices as required
• Maintain rigorous infection control and patient safety practices for diagnoses such as respiratory, renal, endocrine, GI, dementia, and infectious diseases
• Float to other med/surg areas as needed and adapt quickly to changing patient assignments
• Accept and safely manage higher patient loads when required (willingness to take up to 8 patients when needed)

Qualifications

• Current RN licensure (Missouri licensure or compact privileges as applicable)
• Prior med/surg nursing experience required; first-time travel nurses are not being accepted
• Current CEU documentation required by Boone Health during the interview process
• Demonstrated competency in IV insertion, line management, and airway support (CPAP/BiPAP)
• Experience with feeding tube care and wound VAC management
• Comfort with night shift nursing and the ability to manage variable patient acuity and occasional higher census

Knowledge & Skills

• Medication administration and multi-drug regimen management
• IV pump operation and IV insertion skills
• PICC/central line and vascular device access and care
• Feeding tube management and wound VAC operation
• Bladder scanner use, patient lifts and safe transfer techniques
• Oxygen therapy, CPAP/BiPAP operation, and airway support
• Infection control practices and HEPA machine operation
• Ability to float across med/surg units and manage changing unit workflows
