Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, evidence-based nursing care to laboring and postpartum patients
• Monitor fetal status and maternal vital signs, intervene promptly when trends indicate change
• Assist with labor management and deliveries alongside OB providers and the care team
• Educate patients and families on labor progress, delivery options, and postpartum care
• Document assessments, interventions, and patient education accurately in the medical record
• Respond quickly and effectively to obstetric emergencies, following unit protocols
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure smooth transitions of care

Qualifications

• Current, active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Louisiana
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) and/or advanced obstetric certifications encouraged
• Clinical experience in Labor & Delivery preferred
• Strong clinical judgment, communication skills, and ability to work in a fast-paced setting

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficiency with fetal monitoring and interpretation
• Skilled in labor support, delivery assistance, and postpartum assessments
• Comfortable managing obstetric medications and IV therapies
• Clear, compassionate patient and family education skills
• Familiarity with electronic medical records and accurate clinical documentation
• Ability to function effectively in emergency situations with calm, decisive action
