Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality med/surgical nursing care across multiple units as a flexible RN resource
• Perform comprehensive patient assessments and develop safe, effective care plans
• Administer medications accurately and manage IVs, wound VACs and chest tubes with confidence
• Document care thoroughly and efficiently in Meditech EMR
• Float between Medical, Laulima (surgical acute) and occasional Cardiovascular units, adapting to each unit’s workflow
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to coordinate patient care and transitions
• Support unit staffing needs during nights and contribute to a calm, patient-centered environment
• Participate in orientation and unit-specific training to maintain competency and safety

Qualifications

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license for the State of Hawaii — must be active by assignment start
• Minimum 2 years nursing experience (job states 2–10 years preferred)
• BLS and ACLS required; PALS, Procedural Sedation, TNCC, ENPC preferred
• Proof of required immunizations/immunity (medical/religious exemptions not accepted in lieu of documentation)
• Comfort and experience floating across med/surg units and adapting to changing patient populations
• Experience with Meditech EMR, Pyxis, wound VACs and chest tube management preferred
• Strong assessment, clinical judgment and communication skills for night-shift practice

Knowledge & Skills

• Med/Surgical nursing fundamentals and acute care assessment
• Medication administration safety and IV/infusion knowledge
• Proficiency with Meditech EMR for documentation and charting
• Use of medication dispensing systems (Pyxis) and specialty equipment like wound VACs
• Chest tube management and troubleshooting
• Ability to prioritize, multitask and maintain situational awareness on night shifts
• Comfortable working independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
