Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality emergency nursing care for trauma, stroke (TPA), sepsis, chest pain and respiratory distress patients
• Rapidly assess, triage and prioritize patients in a fast-paced, high-acuity Level I Trauma ED
• Initiate and manage IV/infusion therapies and common ED drips safely and accurately
• Read and interpret cardiac strips and telemetry to detect acute changes and escalate appropriately
• Collaborate with ED physicians, mid-levels and interdisciplinary team members to deliver coordinated care
• Serve as a reliable resource in Fast Track, triage areas and OBS when floating is required
• Complete required documentation in EPIC accurately and in a timely manner

Qualifications

• Current, unrestricted RN license for practice (state of assignment)
• Minimum 2 years of recent Emergency Department experience with recent Level 1 or Level 2 trauma experience required
• Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS (NRP preferred)
• Proven experience with ECG/strip interpretation and IV/infusion therapy
• Familiarity with EPIC charting system
• Driver's license required at submittal (used to verify radius requirement) and ability to meet radius rule
• Ability to pass orientation pass/fail skills exam (90% required) and complete unit onboarding

Education

• Active RN license (required)
• BSN not required

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong trauma assessment and management skills in a Level I trauma environment
• TPA/stroke workflow knowledge and stroke scale (NIHSS) competency
• Fast Track and triage experience, with the ability to prioritize multiple patients
• Competence reading and interpreting cardiac monitor strips independently
• Proficiency with EPIC electronic charting and documentation best practices
• Comfort working with telemetry, nurse aids/EMTs and charge nurses in a team-based model
