Roles & Responsibilities

• Oversee clinical operations of the Occupational Therapy department, ensuring high-quality patient care and regulatory compliance.
• Provide hands-on evaluation and treatment for patients (~80% clinical caseload), delivering skilled OT services and supervising direct care.
• Lead clinical education and competency programs for OT staff, including direct supervision of COTAs and Rehabilitation Technicians.
• Develop, maintain, and enforce OT policies and procedures covering scope of care, evaluation/treatment standards, documentation, and discharge planning.
• Conduct performance reviews, competency assessments, and mentorship to strengthen staff skills and foster professional growth.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support program development, quality initiatives, and patient-centered outcomes.
• Manage clinical documentation standards and ensure adherence to state practice acts and accrediting/regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

• Current California Occupational Therapy license (Board of Medical Quality Assurance) required.
• Graduate of an accredited school of Occupational Therapy required.
• Experience supervising COTAs and rehabilitation technicians; proven clinical leadership and supervisory skills.
• Strong knowledge of regulatory compliance, policy and procedure development, and documentation standards.
• Membership in AOTA preferred.
• Ability to manage a mixed role: approximately 80% direct patient care and 20% administrative/program responsibilities.

Education

• Graduate of an accredited school of Occupational Therapy (approved by the American Occupational Therapy Association).

Knowledge & Skills

• Skilled in occupational therapy evaluation and treatment across relevant patient populations.
• Clinical leadership and staff supervision, including competency assessment and education.
• Solid understanding of regulatory requirements and compliance for OT services in California.
• Experience developing policies, procedures, and quality-assurance practices.
• Proficient documentation and discharge planning practices.
