Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, respectful care to geriatric residents and promote dignity in daily routines
- Assist residents with activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, toileting, feeding) with patience and empathy
- Monitor and record vital signs and report changes to the nursing team promptly
- Support safe mobility and fall prevention efforts, using proper lifting/body mechanics
- Maintain accurate, timely documentation in resident charts and electronic records
- Communicate effectively with nurses, families, and interdisciplinary team members
- Adhere to infection control, safety protocols, and facility policies to protect residents and staff
Qualifications
- Current Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA) certification — required
- Maryland GNA registration or eligibility per state guidelines
- Current CPR/BLS certification (preferred or required depending on facility)
- Comfortable working the 11:00 PM - 7:00 AM night shift and flexible per-diem availability
- Demonstrated compassion working with older adults; previous long-term care experience is a plus
- Ability to pass background check and drug screening as required by the facility
- Reliable communication skills and a team-first attitude
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Completion of an approved GNA training program
Knowledge & Skills
- Knowledge of geriatric care principles and common age-related conditions
- Skill assisting with ADLs and safe transfer techniques
- Ability to take and document vital signs accurately
- Familiarity with basic charting and electronic health record systems
- Strong interpersonal skills for working with residents and families
- Understanding of infection control, safety, and privacy (HIPAA) practices
