Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, respectful care to geriatric residents and promote dignity in daily routines
• Assist residents with activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, toileting, feeding) with patience and empathy
• Monitor and record vital signs and report changes to the nursing team promptly
• Support safe mobility and fall prevention efforts, using proper lifting/body mechanics
• Maintain accurate, timely documentation in resident charts and electronic records
• Communicate effectively with nurses, families, and interdisciplinary team members
• Adhere to infection control, safety protocols, and facility policies to protect residents and staff

Qualifications

• Current Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA) certification — required
• Maryland GNA registration or eligibility per state guidelines
• Current CPR/BLS certification (preferred or required depending on facility)
• Comfortable working the 11:00 PM - 7:00 AM night shift and flexible per-diem availability
• Demonstrated compassion working with older adults; previous long-term care experience is a plus
• Ability to pass background check and drug screening as required by the facility
• Reliable communication skills and a team-first attitude

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Completion of an approved GNA training program

Knowledge & Skills

• Knowledge of geriatric care principles and common age-related conditions
• Skill assisting with ADLs and safe transfer techniques
• Ability to take and document vital signs accurately
• Familiarity with basic charting and electronic health record systems
• Strong interpersonal skills for working with residents and families
• Understanding of infection control, safety, and privacy (HIPAA) practices
