Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess and monitor patient status — perform thorough patient assessments and escalate changes promptly
• Deliver expert Med-Surg and orthopedic post-op care, including IV therapy and wound care
• Administer medications and set-rate infusions safely, following hospital policy
• Perform hourly rounding and bedside shift report to promote continuity and patient-centered care
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members and charge nurses to optimize patient outcomes
• Provide compassionate care for patients with diverse needs, including mental health and addiction history
• Document care accurately in EPIC and maintain clear, timely charting
• Float to PCU and McDermott (behavioral health) as needed while maintaining high standards

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license eligible for submission (driver's license required at submittal)
• BLS certification required
• Minimum 1 year of recent RN experience (Med-Surg/Orthopedics preferred)
• Comfortable working 12-hour night shifts and self-scheduled rotations
• Experience with EPIC charting preferred
• Competent in IV therapy, basic telemetry familiarity, wound care, and orthopedic post-op care (total hip/knee)
• Flexible, self-directed, and able to pass orientation skills assessment (90% pass required on open-book exam)

Education

• Completion of an accredited nursing program (ADN, diploma, or BSN) and active RN license
• BLS certification required

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong patient assessment and clinical judgment
• Med-Surg and Orthopedics nursing practices
• IV infusion management and safe medication administration
• Wound care and post-op orthopedic care
• Familiarity with telemetry monitoring and reading unit monitors
• Excellent communication skills for bedside shift report and patient education
• Time management, delegation, and teamwork in a fast-paced acute care setting
• Comfort with hourly rounding practices and patient-centered safety protocols
