Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform thorough patient assessments and document findings in Epic to keep the care plan clear and up to date
• Manage urinary devices including Foley catheter insertion, catheter exchanges, suprapubic catheter care, and trials of void/passage
• Prepare and assist with urology procedures including intravesicular BCG administration using strict aseptic technique
• Collect and label specimens accurately (UA/clean catch) and perform urine dipstick/urinalysis as needed
• Provide compassionate telephone triage, follow-up calls, and pharmacy refill coordination to keep patients connected to their care
• Carry out dressing changes and sterile tray set-up with attention to infection control and patient comfort
• Interpret laboratory results and communicate clinically relevant findings to the care team
• Educate patients and families about urinary retention management, catheter care, and post-procedure expectations

Qualifications

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) credential (position title indicates RN level)
• Minimum 1 year of clinical nursing experience (Urology background preferred)
• Epic charting experience required — please screen for Epic proficiency
• BLS certification preferred
• Experience with Foley catheter management, specimen collection, and urinalysis
• Comfort with procedure assistance, sterile technique, and patient education in genitourinary conditions

Knowledge & Skills

• Patient assessment and obtaining vital signs with clinical judgment
• Epic electronic charting and accurate documentation
• Aseptic/sterile procedure setup and infection control practices
• Foley catheter insertion, management, exchange, and suprapubic catheter care
• Specimen collection, labeling, and urinalysis interpretation
• Telephone triage and effective patient communication
• Phlebotomy basics and interpretation of laboratory results
• Familiarity with urology diagnoses such as urinary retention, kidney stones, bladder cancer, BPH, hematuria, and UTIs
