Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide expert, compassionate labor and delivery nursing care for high-risk and routine obstetric patients
• Perform continuous fetal monitoring and interpret external fetal heart tracings to guide clinical decisions
• Circulate safely and efficiently for cesarean sections and assist the surgical team as needed
• Administer medications and drips such as magnesium sulfate, insulin infusions, and antihypertensives with close monitoring
• Assist with vaginal and high-risk deliveries while maintaining patient safety and dignity
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including anesthesia, neonatology, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, and social services
• Document thoroughly and accurately in Epic to ensure continuity of care
• Support patient and family education during labor, delivery, and postpartum stay

Qualifications

• Active RN license valid in California (pending licenses are not accepted)
• Minimum 2 years of recent Labor & Delivery experience required hard stop
• Travel nursing experience required; first-time travelers will not be considered
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NRP certifications required
• AWHONN Intermediate required (AWHONN Advanced preferred; NCC EFM certification accepted in lieu of Intermediate)
• Proven ability to circulate for C-section and assist with surgical procedures
• Comfort managing high-risk antepartum diagnoses and emergency obstetric situations
• Ability to comply with facility RTO restrictions and scheduling requirements

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficient with external fetal monitoring and recognition/treatment of abnormal fetal heart rate patterns
• Experience with Epic charting and electronic documentation
• Strong medication administration skills including magnesium sulfate, insulin drips, and antihypertensives
• Skilled in maternal and neonatal care, including neonatal resuscitation principles
• Familiar with procedures such as cervical cerclage, D&C, cesarean delivery, and vaginal delivery assistance
• Excellent communication and teamwork in fast-paced, high-risk perinatal environments
• Ability to maintain situational awareness and prioritize in critical events
