Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality, post-operative and critical cardiac care for CVICU patients with compassion and clinical precision
- Monitor and interpret hemodynamic and cardiac rhythms; promptly escalate changes in patient condition
- Administer and titrate vasoactive medications and other critical infusions according to protocol
- Collaborate closely with cardiac surgeons, intensivists, and multidisciplinary team members to develop and execute care plans
- Perform timely and accurate documentation, handoffs, and bedside reporting to ensure continuity of care
- Lead emergent interventions and assist in bedside procedures as needed
- Educate patients and families about cardiac recovery and discharge planning with empathy and clarity
- Participate in unit competency validation (Trinity Skills Checklist and specialty testing) to maintain clinical excellence
Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (ability to verify license/certification required)
- Open heart / CVICU experience required (post-op cardiac care experience preferred)
- BLS and ACLS certifications required
- NIHSS certification required
- Ability to pass Trinity specialty specific competency testing and skills checklist
- Must meet personal health requirements: fit test, TB testing (2-step PPD or IGRA), 10-panel drug screen, color vision, and required immunizations (COVID-19, MMR, Hepatitis B, Influenza, Varicella)
- Successful license/certificate verification and background checks
Education
- Active RN license required; ADN/BSN accepted (BSN preferred)
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong cardiac assessment skills and rhythm interpretation
- Experience with post-operative cardiac monitoring and management
- Proficiency with vasoactive infusions and hemodynamic monitoring
- Critical thinking and rapid decision-making in high-acuity situations
- Clear, compassionate communication with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams
- Familiarity with electronic medical records and accurate clinical documentation
- Comfort participating in competency-based testing and ongoing professional development
