Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide hands-on occupational therapy assistance to help patients regain independence and achieve meaningful goals
• Implement treatment plans developed by the supervising therapist and track patient progress
• Collaborate with nurses, therapists, and care teams to coordinate exceptional patient care
• Educate patients and families on adaptive strategies, home programs, and safe equipment use
• Document clear, timely, and accurate patient records in the facility system
• Ensure therapy equipment is safe, clean, and ready for use
• Contribute to a positive, patient-centered environment that promotes dignity and recovery

Qualifications

• Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) credential required
• Current New Mexico licensure or eligibility to obtain state licensure
• BLS/CPR certification required or ability to obtain prior to start
• Ability to pass background check and drug screen as required by the facility
• Strong communication, documentation, and teamwork skills
• Compassionate approach with commitment to patient-centered care

Education

• Associate degree in Occupational Therapy Assistant or completion of an accredited OTA program

Knowledge & Skills

• Knowledge of occupational therapy principles and therapeutic techniques
• Skilled in patient assessment, activity adaptation, and functional training
• Experience with adaptive equipment and mobility aids
• Competent documentation skills and familiarity with electronic medical records
• Infection control, safety protocols, and fall prevention strategies
• Ability to work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team
