Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide hands-on occupational therapy assistance to help patients regain independence and achieve meaningful goals
- Implement treatment plans developed by the supervising therapist and track patient progress
- Collaborate with nurses, therapists, and care teams to coordinate exceptional patient care
- Educate patients and families on adaptive strategies, home programs, and safe equipment use
- Document clear, timely, and accurate patient records in the facility system
- Ensure therapy equipment is safe, clean, and ready for use
- Contribute to a positive, patient-centered environment that promotes dignity and recovery
Qualifications
- Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) credential required
- Current New Mexico licensure or eligibility to obtain state licensure
- BLS/CPR certification required or ability to obtain prior to start
- Ability to pass background check and drug screen as required by the facility
- Strong communication, documentation, and teamwork skills
- Compassionate approach with commitment to patient-centered care
Education
- Associate degree in Occupational Therapy Assistant or completion of an accredited OTA program
Knowledge & Skills
- Knowledge of occupational therapy principles and therapeutic techniques
- Skilled in patient assessment, activity adaptation, and functional training
- Experience with adaptive equipment and mobility aids
- Competent documentation skills and familiarity with electronic medical records
- Infection control, safety protocols, and fall prevention strategies
- Ability to work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team
