Roles & Responsibilities
- Assess and monitor critically ill adults and adolescents, providing one-to-one to one-to-two ICU-level care
- Interpret telemetry and cardiac rhythms independently using Draeger monitoring and centralized telemetry
- Manage ventilators and provide troubleshooting from nasal cannula through full ventilator support
- Titrate drips and vasopressors safely and accurately per unit protocols
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including surgeons, intensivists, fellows, and residents to coordinate care
- Document thoroughly in EPIC and participate in rounds and code/RRT responses
- Provide compassionate patient and family education, especially during high-acuity events
- Float to other inpatient units as needed (excluding Maternity/NICU) and adapt quickly to varied patient populations
Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) licensure required
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience (critical care experience strongly preferred)
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
- Driver's license required at submittal (radius rule: candidates outside 50 miles will be screened accordingly)
- Ability to work 12-hour shifts including every-other weekend and holiday rotations
- Willingness to complete orientation testing (open-book skills exam; 90% required to pass)
- Adherence to facility policies (for example, artificial nails prohibited for patient care)
- Comfort titrating medications (vasopressors, paralytics, sedatives, analgesics, antiarrhythmics)
Knowledge & Skills
- Telemetry interpretation and cardiac monitoring
- Ventilator management and respiratory failure care
- Drip and vasopressor titration with a strong safety focus
- Experience or familiarity with EPIC electronic charting
- Basic familiarity with advanced devices and therapies: CRRT, ICP monitoring, EV-1000, Impella/Balloon pump concepts
- Ability to respond to codes, rapid response teams, and high-acuity events
- Strong patient assessment, critical thinking, and teamwork skills
