Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-acuity nursing care for adult and geriatric MICU patients, including ventilated and hemodynamically unstable patients
• Manage and titrate vasoactive and cardiac drips, and respond to dysrhythmias and emergent events
• Operate and manage mechanical ventilation and interpret arterial blood gases for optimal respiratory care
• Perform and manage invasive line care including arterial lines, central lines, and PICC lines
• Initiate and maintain IV therapy, blood product administration, and procedural sedation monitoring
• Provide continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) support using NxStage equipment when indicated
• Document thoroughly in EPIC and collaborate with the interdisciplinary team for safe, coordinated care
• Educate patients and families about condition, treatments, and ongoing care needs with compassion

Qualifications

• Active RN license (appropriate state licensure required)
• Minimum 2 years of recent ICU/MICU experience (must meet experience requirements within the past 3 years; at least 1 year current specialty experience required)
• Travel nurse experience required; first-time travelers not accepted
• Current ACLS and BLS required; NIHSS certification required
• Proven competence with vents, IV starts, arterial/central/PICC line management, and cardiac monitoring
• Experience with Epic (charting system required)
• Comfort with high-acuity patient ratios (typical ratio 1:2)
• Ability to complete a 72-hour orientation as part of onboarding

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Mechanical ventilation and ventilator management including ABG interpretation
• CRRT familiarity, especially NxStage systems
• Arterial pressure monitoring and arterial line management
• Central and PICC line care and blood product administration
• Titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips and management of dysrhythmias
• Use of Cortrak NG/Dobhoff placement and Alaris IV pump systems
• BiPAP/CPAP management and high flow nasal cannula (HFNC) support
• Infection prevention, isolation precautions, and phlebotomy skills
