Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide expert, evidence-based nursing care for antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum patients in a high-risk L&D unit
- Perform and interpret external fetal monitoring and recognize and intervene for abnormal fetal heart rate patterns
- Circulate confidently for Cesarean sections and assist with vaginal and high-risk deliveries
- Administer and titrate critical medications including antihypertensives, insulin drips and magnesium sulfate safely and accurately
- Support neonatal and maternal needs across age groups, collaborating with NICU and pediatric teams as needed
- Participate in unit orientation and maintain charting accuracy using Epic
- Contribute to a culture of safety by following protocols, escalating concerns, and supporting rapid response efforts
Qualifications
- Active RN license in state of practice (pending licenses are not accepted)
- Minimum 2 years of Labor & Delivery experience required, no exceptions; seasoned travel experience required
- Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, NRP, AWHONN Intermediate (AWHONN Advanced preferred)
- Demonstrated ability to circulate in the OR for C-section and assist with surgical obstetric procedures
- Experience with external fetal monitoring (EFM) and recognition/treatment of abnormal fetal heart rate patterns
- Comfort working in large hospital settings and with Epic charting preferred
- Able to meet hospital scheduling requirements including weekend coverage
Education
- Registered Nurse (active RN license required)
Knowledge & Skills
- Skilled in fetal monitoring and use of EFM
- Knowledge of high-risk antepartum care and management of pregnancy complications such as preeclampsia/eclampsia, multiples, and diabetes
- Proficient in medication administration for obstetric patients, including insulin drips and magnesium sulfate therapy
- Experienced in assisting vaginal deliveries and circulating/assisting for Cesarean sections
- Familiarity with procedures such as cervical cerclage and D&C
- Strong clinical judgment, critical thinking, and ability to work in fast-paced, high-acuity environments
- Comfortable charting in Epic and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams
