Roles & Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive echocardiogram studies (Transthoracic 2D, M-Mode, Color-flow Doppler) accurately and efficiently
- Conduct Transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) and both exercise and pharmacologic stress echocardiography as ordered
- Perform EKGs, Holter preparation/monitoring and analysis, and cardiac stress testing with attention to quality and detail
- Operate and maintain cardiac diagnostic equipment and ensure proper aseptic technique and equipment disinfection
- Document studies and results in hospital information systems for scheduling, processing, and accurate records
- Provide age-specific care for patients across the lifespan, including neonatal and pediatric populations
- Serve as a professional resource to physicians, nursing staff, and other hospital personnel
- Precept and guide students from contracted colleges and universities per agreements
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED (required)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (required)
- Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) or equivalent credential (required)
- Successful completion of a cardiovascular sonography certification program or at least 2 years hands-on echocardiography experience (required)
- Preferred: Certificate Program in Cardiovascular Sonography or advanced pediatric/neonatal echo training
- Preferred: Prior hospital setting experience and experience with pediatric and neonatal echocardiography
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams
Education
- High School Diploma or GED (required)
- Certificate Program in Cardiovascular Sonography (preferred)
Knowledge & Skills
- Transthoracic echocardiography (2D) and M-Mode techniques
- Color-flow Doppler imaging and interpretation
- Transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) skills
- Exercise and pharmacologic stress echocardiography
- EKG acquisition and Holter monitoring and analysis
- Operation and troubleshooting of echocardiographs, cardiac stress systems, electrocardiographs, and Holter monitors
- Familiarity with hospital information systems for scheduling and documentation
- Infection control, aseptic technique, and proper equipment disinfection
- Ability to provide age-specific care, including neonatal and pediatric patients
- Preceptorship and clinical teaching skills
