Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform utilization reviews and determine medical necessity using InterQual criteria
• Conduct pre-certification, prior authorization, concurrent review, and retrospective reviews
• Document cases accurately and timely in Epic and the required charting systems
• Coordinate care across interdisciplinary teams to support appropriate transitions and discharge planning
• Apply CMS and Medicare regulations, DRG, CPT coding, and other regulatory standards to case reviews
• Manage a patient ratio consistent with 1:40 expectations while maintaining quality and compliance
• Rotate coverage across facilities as needed and participate in every-third-weekend rotations
• Adhere to California labor laws and organizational policies related to breaks, overtime, and work hours

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years acute care case management or utilization management experience in a hospital setting
• Proficient with Epic; recent use required within the last 6-12 months
• InterQual experience required (hardstop)
• Experience with HMOs/IPAs and Medicare regulations and UM processes (CC44s, ABNs, HINNs, MCSNs, etc.)
• Familiarity with CPT coding and billing and DRG principles
• Ability to work Pacific Standard Time and rotate between facilities; every-third-weekend coverage required
• Charting system experience required; Travel experience is not required for this role
• Certifications relevant to case management/utilization review are a plus

• Medical necessity determinations based on evidence-based guidelines
• CPT coding, billing basics, DRG, HIPAA, and CMS/Medicare regulations
• Care coordination and discharge planning in acute hospital and ambulatory settings
