Roles & Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality respiratory care, managing ventilators and advanced airway support for critically and medically ill patients
- Assess and interpret arterial blood gases (ABGs) to guide timely interventions
- Provide oxygen therapy, nebulizer treatments, BiPAP/CPAP support and weaning protocols when appropriate
- Safely perform intubation assistance, extubation, suctioning and tracheostomy care
- Document care accurately in Epic and the facility charting system to ensure continuity of care
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (PT, pharmacy, social work, rapid response) to optimize patient outcomes
- Support transports, special procedures (bronchoscopy) and unit needs; float to Betsy Johnson Hospital as required
- Participate in holiday and weekend coverage, adhering to department call/makeup policies
Qualifications
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) licensure — required
- Minimum 2 years of respiratory therapy experience
- Proficiency with Epic/charting systems — required
- BLS required; ACLS, CPFT, CRT, NRP, PALS, RPFT preferred
- Community hospital experience required; teaching hospital, LTAC and trauma experience preferred
- Must meet facility vaccine guidelines (flu vaccine required; medical/religious exemptions allowed; COVID-19 vaccine not required)
- Able to float within scope to nearby Betsy Johnson Hospital as needed
- Pending license NOT accepted
Knowledge & Skills
- Ventilator management and troubleshooting high-pressure alarms
- Airway management, intubation assistance and tracheostomy care
- Arterial blood gas interpretation and arterial punctures
- High-flow nasal cannula (HFNC), BiPAP, CPAP and noninvasive ventilation
- Nebulizer therapy and various medication delivery systems
- Pulmonary function testing (spirometry, diffusion, lung volumes) experience
- Familiarity with ECMO, neonatal/pediatric support and transport procedures
- Strong documentation skills in Epic and clear interdisciplinary communication
