Physician - Neonatologist
Location: Lexington, KY

Shift Type: Daytime clinical coverage (exact start/end times not provided); home-based night call with 24/7 in-house Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) coverage. Primarily daytime hours with participation in scheduled home-call nights and occasional weekend coverage as required.

Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive neonatal care for infants in a 32-bed Level III NICU
- Manage newborn nursery patients and support care across approximately 4,000 annual deliveries
- Perform and maintain hands-on neonatal procedures with procedural excellence
- Collaborate closely with fellow neonatologists, neonatal nurse practitioners, and multidisciplinary teams
- Participate in home-based night call while relying on 24/7 in-house NNP coverage
- Contribute to a collegial practice environment and mentor junior colleagues and new graduates
- Deliver compassionate, high-quality care aligned with Pediatrix standards and quality initiatives
Qualifications
- Board eligible or board certified in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine (or equivalent training) preferred
- MD or DO (completion of residency and neonatology fellowship or equivalent training)
- Active or eligible for Kentucky medical license; residency within the immediate local area required
- Ability to perform and maintain neonatal procedures and work in a busy Level III NICU
- Comfortable participating in home-based night call with strong daytime NNP support
- U.S. work authorization required — this role is not accepting visa candidates
- Open to fresh graduates and supportive of early-career physicians; locum candidates not accepted
Education
- MD or DO degree with completed neonatology fellowship or equivalent training
Knowledge & Skills
- Expertise in clinical neonatal care and management in a Level III NICU
- Proven neonatal procedural skills and comfort with high-acuity newborns
- Experience collaborating with Neonatal Nurse Practitioners and multidisciplinary teams
- Strong communication, mentorship, and teaching skills
- Ability to manage newborn nursery workflows and coordinate care across services
