Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform utilization reviews using InterQual criteria to determine medical necessity
• Conduct concurrent and continued stay reviews to support safe, efficient patient care
• Complete pre-certifications, prior authorizations and retrospective reviews as needed
• Document thoroughly and accurately in Epic and other required charting systems
• Coordinate care across interdisciplinary teams and communicate with clinical stakeholders
• Apply CPT coding and billing knowledge and adhere to CMS/Medicare guidelines
• Support disease management and plan-of-care activities to optimize outcomes
• Ensure compliance with HIPAA, The Joint Commission standards and state regulations
• Participate in orientation and ongoing learning to keep skills current and effective

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years acute care case management / utilization management experience in a hospital setting (explicit requirement)
• Proficient with InterQual (HARDSTOP — required)
• Recent Epic experience (used within the last 6–12 months required)
• Knowledge of Medicare regulations and CA Medi-Cal policies
• Experience with HMOs, IPAs and payer processes (prior authorizations, CC44s, ABNs, HINNs, MCSNs)
• Experience performing concurrent, continued stay, pre-cert and retrospective reviews
• Comfort working remotely while adhering to Pacific Standard Time expectations
• Ability to work every third weekend rotation and rotate across multiple facilities
• Familiarity with CPT coding/billing and regulatory frameworks (CMS, DRG, HIPAA)

• Remote UR work best practices and time-zone discipline (PST)
• Familiarity with regulatory standards: CMS, HIPAA, The Joint Commission, DRG
