Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform accurate transthoracic, M-Mode, color-flow Doppler, transesophageal, exercise and pharmacological echocardiography studies
• Conduct EKGs, prepare and monitor Holter recordings, and assist with cardiac stress testing
• Operate and maintain echocardiographs, Holter monitors, electrocardiographs and cardiac stress systems to produce reliable diagnostic data
• Assess and document studies in hospital information systems for scheduling and processing
• Implement infection control, aseptic technique and equipment disinfection to protect patients
• Provide age-specific care, including neonatal and pediatric echocardiography, with compassion and clinical expertise
• Serve as a resource to physicians, nursing staff and other hospital team members
• Precept and mentor students from contracted colleges and universities as part of clinical instruction

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required
• Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) credential required
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
• Successful completion of a cardiovascular sonography certification program or at least 2 years hands-on echocardiography experience
• Preferred: extensive hospital-based echocardiography experience, including pediatric and neonatal studies
• Comfortable working variable evening schedules and collaborating across departments
• Strong communication skills and ability to interact professionally with patients of all ages

Education

• High School Diploma or GED (required)
• Certificate Program in Cardiovascular Sonography (preferred)

Knowledge & Skills

• Transthoracic 2-D, M-Mode and color-flow Doppler echocardiography
• Transesophageal echocardiography and exercise/pharmacological stress echo
• EKG performance and interpretation fundamentals
• Holter monitoring setup, monitoring and analysis
• Cardiac stress testing procedures and equipment operation
• Infection control, aseptic technique and equipment disinfection practices
• Pediatric and neonatal echocardiography patient care
• Proficiency with echocardiograph operation and hospital information systems
