Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide evidence-based, culturally relevant crisis intervention services in the emergency department and other hospital settings
• Assess individuals in crisis and determine the most appropriate level of care, including consideration of involuntary psychiatric hospitalization under Alaska Title 47
• Conduct intake and diagnostic evaluations, create treatment plans, and document all care in the electronic health record
• Perform risk and safety assessments (suicide, self-harm, homicide) and develop effective safety plans
• Coordinate care and referrals with community agencies, psychiatric facilities, and interdisciplinary hospital teams
• Deliver short-term management for mental health and substance use disorders using trauma-informed methods and motivational interviewing
• Complete timely, accurate documentation and respond to coding/audit requests professionally
• Participate actively in team meetings, trainings, and quality improvement efforts to support patient outcomes

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or a related field (required)
• Licensed as an LCSW, LPC, or LMFT preferred; licensure must be maintained for duration of employment
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 3 months of hire
• Clinical Competency Assessment (SEARHC) required
• Valid Alaska driver’s license or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire
• Minimum 2 years' experience in mental health, substance use treatment, or similar behavioral health social service setting
• Experience across the lifespan and comfort working with diverse patient populations

Education

• Master's Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or related discipline (accredited program)

Knowledge & Skills

• Behavioral health assessment and diagnostic evaluation skills
• Title 47 involuntary assessment and documentation experience
• Risk assessment and safety planning for suicide, self-harm, and assaultive behavior
• Trauma-informed care and motivational interviewing techniques
• Strong EHR documentation skills and compliance with HIPAA
• Familiarity with CARF, The Joint Commission, HRSA, State Medicaid and federal regulations
• Ability to coordinate care across providers and advocate for patients in crisis
• Excellent communication and interdisciplinary teamwork abilities
