Roles & Responsibilities

• Lead and implement the internal risk management program to reduce patient harm and organizational risk
• Oversee the patient safety program and drive system-level improvements to prevent adverse events
• Investigate and evaluate adverse incidents, ensuring timely regulatory reporting and statutory compliance
• Coordinate disclosure and follow-up with patients, families, and care teams after incidents
• Facilitate and lead Root Cause Analyses (RCA) and Failure Mode and Effects Analyses (FMEA)
• Conduct patient safety rounds and provide risk management education across departments
• Collaborate with Medical Directors, the CMO, and Corporate Counsel on peer review and quality-of-care issues
• Support accreditation and quality activities including chart audits, clinical reviews, and data support

Qualifications

• Current, full, unrestricted, active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Alaska
• Direct-hire applicants must have applied for an Alaska nursing license before the start date; agency staff must hold an active Alaska RN license
• CPHRM certification required within two (2) years
• Clinical competency demonstrated within 3 months of start and maintained every 3 years
• Minimum 3 years experience monitoring risk management, patient safety, quality, and regulatory requirements
• Proven leadership in facilitating cross-functional teams and driving collaborative process change
• Familiarity with accreditation and regulatory standards (DNV, TJC, CMS, CARF) preferred

Education

• Active Registered Nursing license in Alaska (required)
• CPHRM certification (to be obtained within 2 years)
• Clinical competency validation within 3 months of hire

Knowledge & Skills

• Deep knowledge of risk management principles, patient safety, and regulatory compliance
• Skilled in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA)
• Experience with adverse event investigation, disclosure coordination, and regulatory reporting
• Strong clinical competency and ability to interpret chart audits and clinical reviews
• Excellent communication, training, and mentorship skills to educate staff and leaders
• Ability to collaborate effectively with physicians, medical leadership, and legal counsel
• Comfort using data to identify trends and drive quality improvements
