Roles & Responsibilities

• Coordinate and deliver safe, evidence-based nursing care for patients of all ages in the ED
• Perform thorough nursing assessments and document findings clearly and accurately
• Administer medications and therapeutics with age-specific knowledge and precision
• Make independent clinical decisions during your shift and consult leadership as needed
• Anticipate patient needs, set priorities, and act quickly in emergent situations
• Delegate and supervise CNA/Tech staff and support their growth at the bedside
• Lead patient care activities as Charge RN when assigned, ensuring smooth shift operations
• Provide patient and family education, discharge instructions, and emotional support
• Participate in unit in-services, competency checks, and continuous quality improvement

Qualifications

• Current full, unrestricted Registered Nursing license in Alaska or another U.S. state (Direct Hire: must have applied for Alaska license before start; agency staff: active Alaska license required)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required at hire
• ACLS and PALS to be obtained within 6 months of hire
• TNCC required for Emergency Department nurses
• Clinical Competency required within 3 months of hire and maintained per policy
• High Risk Competency required within 3 months and per the listed frequency
• One year of clinical nursing experience preferred; prior specialty/ED experience preferred
• High school diploma or equivalent required

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent (required)
• Active RN licensure (Alaska or other U.S. state) required

Knowledge & Skills

• Patient assessment across the lifespan: pediatric, adult and geriatric care
• Medication administration and safe documentation practices
• Infection control and standard precautions
• Emergency response and life-saving procedures (defibrillator, airway management)
• Experience with ventilators, intubation, arterial line management and EKG interpretation
• Delegation, charge responsibilities, and ability to lead a care team
• Strong oral and written communication; accurate charting and handoffs
• Ability to educate patients and families and provide psychosocial support
