Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality, patient-centered nursing care in the Progressive Care Unit using neuro and trauma nursing skills
• Perform neuro and spinal checks, monitor hemodynamics and titrate IV infusions and PCA pumps safely
• Manage chest tubes, tracheostomies, feeding tubes, and blood transfusions with careful assessment and documentation
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized care plans
• Use Cerner to chart concisely and communicate patient changes to providers
• Educate patients and families on care plans, procedures, and discharge needs
• Prioritize patient safety and maintain appropriate patient ratios while responding to changes rapidly
• Float to stepdown or med-surg units as needed with professionalism and teamwork

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse (RN) with at least 2 years of clinical experience
• Current ACLS and BLS certifications required
• NIHSS certification required
• Experience in Neuro and Trauma care, preferably in a Progressive Care Unit or stepdown setting
• Familiarity with Cerner or similar electronic medical records
• Comfort managing advanced equipment such as IV pumps, PCA pumps, and patient lifts

Knowledge & Skills

• Neuro assessment and spinal checks
• Trauma care principles and C-collar/TLSO management
• Chest tube management and postoperative care
• IV infusion titration and pump management
• PCA pump setup and monitoring
• Tracheostomy and feeding tube care
• Blood transfusion monitoring and safety
• Experience working within PCU/stepdown and med-surg environments
• Proficient Cerner documentation and electronic charting
• Strong teamwork, critical thinking, and patient-focused communication
