Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality gastroenterology care including consults, inpatient procedures, and continuity of care for hospitalized patients
• Perform advanced endoscopic procedures, with ERCP as a required competency
• Cover 24-hour call Monday through Thursday and a 12-hour Friday shift while coordinating care with hospitalists and surgical colleagues
• Document patient encounters clearly and communicate treatment plans to multidisciplinary teams
• Participate in quality improvement and patient-safety initiatives within the department
• Engage with outpatient clinic operations when scheduled, ensuring seamless transitions between clinic and hospital care

Qualifications

• MD or DO degree and completion of an accredited Gastroenterology fellowship
• Board certified or board eligible in Gastroenterology
• Current or ability to obtain Michigan medical license
• Proven experience and competency in ERCP (required)
• Current ACLS certification and any required hospital privileging documentation
• Comfort functioning independently for inpatient call coverage and collaborating with hospitalist support

Education

• MD or DO; completion of Gastroenterology fellowship; board certified/board eligible in Gastroenterology

Knowledge & Skills

• Advanced endoscopic techniques including ERCP and therapeutic endoscopy
• Strong inpatient consultative skills and clinical decision-making under call conditions
• Effective communication with multidisciplinary teams (hospitalists, surgeons, nursing)
• Efficient procedural documentation and familiarity with hospital electronic medical records
• Patient-centered bedside manner and the ability to manage acute GI emergencies
