Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess patients using the Nursing Process and document findings clearly and accurately
• Develop individualized plans of care based on thorough patient assessments
• Implement nursing interventions and record care provided in the patient chart
• Evaluate patient responses to care and update plans to meet evolving needs
• Direct and supervise unit staff to ensure safe, effective delegation and follow-through
• Collaborate with the Med-Surg Nurse Manager and interdisciplinary team to optimize patient outcomes
• Maintain professional documentation and adhere to facility policies and procedures

Qualifications

• Active Michigan RN license (must be active and verifiable via LARA and/or Nursys)
• Minimum 2+ years of Med-Surg nursing experience (required)
• Strong orthopedics experience (required)
• Current American Heart Association BLS certification (required)
• Two supervisory reference forms completed within the last two years (required)
• Current skills checklist relevant to Med-Surg, updated within the last year (required)
• Willingness to provide permanent address (facility considers local candidates within a 50-mile radius for 1–13 week contracts)

Knowledge & Skills

• Solid command of the Nursing Process: assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation
• Patient assessment and clinical judgment on the Med-Surg/Ortho unit
• Care planning and clear, concise documentation in the patient chart
• Delegation skills and supervising team members to deliver safe care
• Familiarity with Med-Surg and orthopedic interventions and post-op care
• Strong communication and teamwork skills across interdisciplinary teams
• Comfortable working with electronic health records and unit-based workflows
