Roles & Responsibilities

• Support the pharmacist by accurately retrieving and interpreting medication orders
• Perform pharmaceutical calculations and enter orders into the pharmacy computer system for pharmacist review
• Label, fill, and deliver medications to patient care areas, ensuring accuracy and timely service
• Operate and maintain automated dispensing systems (Parata, Pyxis) and restock machines like ER Pyxis
• Conduct inventory activities: order, receive, replace, and document drugs and supplies
• Prepare and maintain a clean, compliant IV room — clean the IV hood before/after compounding and monitor hood pressures
• Handle controlled substances with proper documentation and filing procedures
• Provide excellent customer-facing service: triage refill requests, answer patient questions, and communicate with providers when needed
• Monitor refrigerator temperatures and maintain required logs for medication storage
• Assist with unit-specific documentation, quality assurance tasks, and other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Valid Alaska Pharmacy Technician license (required)
• PTCB certification (required)
• Minimum 5 years pharmacy experience (hospital, ambulatory clinic, or retail) — this role needs seasoned techs
• Current flu vaccination (required)
• Sterile compounding and hazardous drug handling experience
• Familiarity with Parata and Pyxis automated dispensing systems
• Comfortable performing pharmaceutical calculations and using pharmacy computer systems
• Able to triage patient questions and escalate to a pharmacist when appropriate
• Willingness to complete required fingerprinting and related travel onboarding steps in a timely manner

• Strong customer service, telephone communication, mentoring, and training abilities
• Basic math and attention to detail for safe medication preparation
