Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, patient-centered occupational therapy interventions under the direction of an occupational therapist
- Assess patients functional needs and collaborate on individualized treatment plans to improve daily living skills
- Use adaptive equipment and therapeutic activities to promote independence and safety
- Document progress clearly and timely in the medical record to support continuity of care
- Educate patients and families on techniques, home programs and adaptive strategies that matter long-term
- Work closely with interdisciplinary teams to coordinate care and optimize patient outcomes
- Advocate for patients needs and contribute to a positive, healing environment
Qualifications
- Current Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) credential
- Completion of an accredited occupational therapy assistant program
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred or willing to obtain
- Comfortable with patient-centered care across a variety of settings and diagnoses
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with an interdisciplinary team
- Ability to pass required background checks and meet facility onboarding requirements
Education
- Associate degree or certificate from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program
- Completion of program required for national certification eligibility
Knowledge & Skills
- Knowledge of ADL/IADL assessment and adaptive strategies
- Experience with adaptive equipment and assistive technology
- Skilled in therapeutic activity grading and documentation best practices
- Familiarity with common rehabilitation diagnoses and interventions
- Proficiency with electronic health records and timely charting
- Excellent interpersonal skills and patient education techniques
